Junior Orange Bowl International Tennis Championship Celebrates 50th Anniversary.
(Coral Gables, September 2011)– Coral Gables has something to look forward to as the Junior Orange Bowl Tennis Committee celebrates the 50th anniversary of its International Tennis Championship.Last year’s tournament attracted over 1,250 entrant applications from 75 countries and 40 U.S. states and the Junior Orange Bowl Committee (JOBC) is poised to make the 50th edition of the Championship a memorable one. Play will take place at Biltmore Tennis Center, Salvadore Park, UM Schiff Tennis Center and Crandon Park Tennis Center this December.
The Junior Orange Bowl International Tennis Championship has a rich history of attracting the most promising young tennis players from around the world and the 2011 Championship promises to be no different.The Tournament boasts an impressive list of alumni including, Andre Agassi, Roger Federer, Caroline Wozniazki, John McEnroe, Andy Roddick, Andy Murray, Maria Sharapova, Jennifer Capriati, Stefi Graff, Jim Courier and many more past and current ATP and WTA stars.
The Junior Orange Bowl Tennis Committee is proud to announce Mary Joe Fernandez as Honorary Chair for this year’s Championship. Fernandez is a two time Junior Orange Bowl International Tennis Champion, former #4 ranked women’s tennis player in the world, and currently works as a tennis analyst for ESPN. The Junior Orange Bowl Tennis Committee is honored to welcome her back.
The qualifying draw for both the U12 & U14 girls and boys tournaments will begin on December 14 with the main draw taking place on December 17-23. The tournament will take place at four different locations throughout Miami, FL on multiple playing surfaces. The U12 boys tournament will be played on clay while the other three championships will be played on hard court.
