JOBC Creative Writing Committee Announces Contest Winners
The theme for the 24th annual Junior Orange Bowl Creative Writing Contest is “Why We Need to Care about Nature and the Environment.” This essay contest is open to eighth grade middle school students in Miami-Dade County. We received 145 submissions from public and private school students in the county.
The Junior Orange Bowl Creative Writing Committee applauds the winners of the 2011-2012 Creative Writing Contest. Diana Proenza from South Miami Middle School is our First Place winner. Yael Rosenberg from Alexander S. Gross Hebrew Academy won the Second Place prize. Ilan Gilhuly from South Miami Middle School won the prize for Third Place.
The Junior Orange Bowl Creative Writing Contest awards ceremony will be held at the monthly meeting of the South Florida Writers Association on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 10:00 am. This event will be at Books & Books at 265 Aragon Avenue in Coral Gables. The South Florida Writers Association is co-sponsor of this competition and awards event. This event is free and open to the public.
We will have a reading of the winning essays. Awards will be presented to the contest winners and their teachers.
The judging panel is comprised of writers and teachers in the community. The Creative Writing Committee is sponsored by Books & Books, Miami Art Museum, HistoryMiami, and Friends of the Everglades.
