Creative Writing Awards Ceremony Set for January

CORAL GABLES, FLA. -- The theme for the 22nd annual Junior Orange Bowl Creative Writing Contest is "What Makes A Family?" This essay contest is open to eighth grade middle-school students in Miami-Dade County.  We received 470 submissions from public and private school students in the county.

The Junior Orange Bowl Creative Writing Committee applauds the winners of the 2009-2010 Creative Writing Contest.  Miranda Ryshawy from Epiphany Catholic School is our First Place winner.  Alexis Kovacs from Devon Aire K-8 Center won the Second Place prize. Catherine Buckler from Epiphany Catholic School won the prize for Third Place.  

The Junior Orange Bowl Creative Writing Contest awards ceremony will be held at the monthly meeting of the South Florida Writers Association on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 10:00 am.  This event will be at Books & Books at 265 Aragon Avenue in Coral Gables.  The South Florida Writers Association is co-sponsor of this competition and awards event.  This event is free and open to the public.

We will have a reading of the winning essays.  Awards will be presented to the contest winners and their teachers.  The judging panel is comprised of writers and former classroom teachers.  The Creative Writing Committee is sponsored by Books & Books, Miami Art Museum, Historical Museum of Southern Florida, and The Nature Conservancy.
