(CORAL GABLES, DEC 17, 2010) – The 49th Junior Orange Bowl kicked off on Friday under clear sunny skies. It was an exciting day for everyone involved and the intensity only figures to build.
Many of the top seeds in the boys U14 and girls U14 groups advanced to the second round, although the U12 brackets featured a few notable upsets. In the boys 12 & under, Korea's Min Seob Lim ousted Brazil's Guilherme Scarpelli in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.
On the girls side of things, Usue Arconada of the US fell victim to China's Zhanlan Wei, 6-2, 6-0, while California's Angela Kulikov needed three sets to knock off Canada's Patricia Muamba, 6-7(1), 6-2, 6-1.
Each bracket will feature a consolation tournament beginning Saturday.
The main draw will continue with second-round action on Saturday in four different venues: boys 14 & under (University of Miami Tennis Center), girls 14 & under (Biltmore Tennis Center), boys 12 & under (Tropical Park Tennis Center), and girls 12 & under (Salvadore Park).

(CORAL GABLES, DEC 16, 2010) – Excitement is building as the qualifying portion of the Junior Orange Bowl Tennis Championship is in the books, meaning the festivities of the main draw begin on Friday.
For some players, the experience is a brand new one. With nations all over the world represented, many individuals are setting foot in the United States for the first time. Others have played in this prestigious event in the past.
“This is my third Orange Bowl,” said Maryland's Michael Mmoh of the boys 12 & under, who was the runner-up at the Eddie Herr International Junior championship. “I'm very excited to be here. There are some really good players in each group.”
Romania's Ioana Ducu, ranked fourth in the girls 14 & under, is in the US for the first time and while she is bracing for the strong competition, she is already enjoying her time in Miami.
“It's a very nice place, and I think I will come back next year,” Ducu said with a smile.
The event will take place at four different locations: boys 14 & under (University of Miami Tennis Center), girls 14 & under (Biltmore Tennis Center), boys 12 & under (Tropical Park Tennis Center), and girls 12 & under (Salvadore Park).

(CORAL GABLES, DEC 15, 2010) – Qualifying matches for the Junior Orange Bowl Tennis Championship are underway, as the main draw pairings will be cemented when play wraps up on Thursday.
The girls 12 & under group is down to the final 32, while the other three brackets are in the round of 64.
On Wednesday, 12 of the 32 matches in the girls U12 went three sets, perhaps none more scintillating than the duel between Port St. Lucie's Jeannie Lozowski and Miami's Mya Fuentes. Lozowski outlasted Fuentes, 7-6(6), 4-6, 7-5.
The main draw begins on Friday and will take place at four different locations: boys 14 & under (University of Miami Tennis Center), girls 14 & under (Biltmore Tennis Center), boys 12 & under (Tropical Park Tennis Center), and girls 12 & under (Salvadore Park).
